Ms. Tina Jones is a 28-year-old female that has been admitted to the hospital for an infected right foot wound.  Ms. Jones injured her right foot about a week ago. She presented to the ED yesterday afternoon with fever, increased pain, and drainage from the wound.  Ms. Jones reports the pain in her foot is a 7/10. She states the oxycodone has been helping her pain. Ms. Jones history is significant for asthma and type II diabetes. Her asthma is well-controlled. She understands her asthma triggers (Cats: wheezing, itchy watery eyes, sneezing, asthma exacerbation • Dust: wheezing, itchy watery eyes, sneezing, asthma exacerbation) and how to use her inhaler. She has never been intubated for asthma and her last hospitalization was when she was in high school. Ms. Jones’ diabetes is not well-controlled. She does not take any medication for diabetes and does not check her blood sugar on a regular basis. She states that she stopped taking metformin because of gastrointestinal symptoms and she doesn’t understand what the glucose levels mean and how to manage them. She reports polydipsia, polyphagia, and polyuria for the last month with unintentional weight loss of 10 pounds.
